Who I am
My name is Charles G Loud III and I am 79 years young and have been a builder of A/C models for the better part of my life from pre-teen till now, with the exception of my Coast Guard career. There was little room for such activities. I spent 20 great years in the U. S. Coast Guard, retiring in August of 1977 as a Senior Chief Electronics Technician (E-8). In high school I took two years of mechanical and architectural drafting when we used pencils, ‘T’ squares, drafting boards and real erasers not a button on a key board. Thank God for CAD!
What I have designed before Giant Scale RC Models
I have been a naval architect and the designer and builder of a wide range of vessels. Such as: an 89’ square rigged staysail schooner to be used on the mission field in Micronesia; I designed and oversaw the building of a couple of 65’ catamarans used for dinner cruises off Waikiki Beach, Hawaii. I was a fiberglass technician and designer for a 67’ long line fishing boat and various small craft.
At a farm equipment manufacturer I designed various types of farm equipment: manure spreaders, racks, forage boxes and hay harvesting equipment.
At American La France Fire Apparatus I was a Project Engineer and designed and oversaw the building of about 200 ambulances and 70 trucks per year.
Why Giant Scale?
I choose Giant Scale RC model A/C design as it facilities better scale possibilities and a master scale platform that is not as difficult as smaller models. I use both 2D and 3D design methods in AutoCAD™ and wish to soon get into one of the true solid modeling platform programs like Solid Works™. I use CompuFoil™ 3D for wing structure development, a wonderful labor saving program.
